About me
In 2013, I attended The Halloween & Scare Attractions show. The event offered delegates the opportunity to meet with leaders in the UK scare entertainment industry, and take part in workshops, seminars, and a behind the scenes tour of one of the greatest scare mazes ever created (The Sanctuary, Alton Towers). I had no intention of creating my own event; I was there because I was desperate to learn more about an industry that was beyond fascinating to me, and one which I was keen to start writing about. I created my first website, HorrorBox, shortly thereafter.
I've always been obsessed with horror; it's a huge part of who I am. In 2010 I joined the team at Celluloid Screams Horror Film Festival. I was a runner until 2013, when I moved into programming, up until I became co-director in 2018. I co-directed five editions in total. My highlight was our Ghostwatch event in 2022, which you can read about here. That was probably the most nerve-wracking week of my entire life!
Sadly, the realities of trying to manage festival duties alongside HorrorBox and a full time job began to hit hard. I closed down HorrorBox in 2020, and stepped down as co-director of the festival three years later. They were two really tough decisions, but they ultimately gave me some much needed breathing space, and time to reflect.
So, where did I end up? Well, I narrowed my field - I'm now director of shorts at Celluloid Screams, heading up our shorts programme to bring you an annual selection of the very best shocks and frights. Be sure to check our website for more information on upcoming events. As for HorrorBox, it made me sad to see so many past reviews sequestered in the depths of my hard drive, so they're all here instead! I'm so proud of the UK scare industry and I'll continue to celebrate it on this site, alongside whatever spooky stuff I fancy writing about (you can also catch me over on ScareTrack from time to time).
Thanks for stopping by! 🎃
